Institute

The Institute of European Art History (IEK) is a centre for the methodologically diverse research and teaching in the history of art and architecture, covering specialist subject areas that include new media and popular culture. A shared interest in cultural and historical contextualisation is at the heart of the Institute's work.

With a rich offering across the major periods of European art history, the Institute specialises in medieval architecture and luxury arts, art and the public sphere, political art history, Italian art, art historical historiography, film, video art, and forgeries. To complement this, the Institute presents a strong focus on career-oriented and practice-based teaching, offering courses in historic preservation, museums, the art market, digital humanities, and drawing.
