Research
Scholars at the IEK analyse media and processes in the visual arts, addressing topics ranging from the history of style and iconography to socio-historical and media-theoretical approaches, as well as perspectives from cognitive science and gender studies. Through coursework and participation in projects at the institute, students gain insights into research work and receive inspiration for their own academic careers.
Current research projects focus on topics such as 20th-century forgery networks (Prof. Keazor), medieval glass gems (Prof. Müller), female art historians prior to 1970 (Prof. Sölch), and archaeological investigations of Magdeburg Cathedral and Cathedral Square (Prof. Untermann). Scholars at the IEK are involved in their own projects within the SFB 1671 “Heimat(en)”. Further projects, including completed ones, will be available under “Research Projects” (see below). Please check back regularly!
